Top biologists at Harvard and Brown Universities are urging scientists and policymakers to consider legal problems arising from recent advances in the creation of human embryos from male sperm. Late in 2016, a group of researchers at the University of Bath discovered that sperm and skin cells – or any other kind of non-egg cell – might be all you need for conception. Working with mice, the team produced healthy offspring while bypassing the normal process of fertilizing an egg cell with sperm and raised the prospect that one day they may be able to do the same with other adult cells.
