We are on an exponential curve of research and innovation and it’s difficult to look ahead very far. The more the AI industry grows, the more and varied the innovation and the greater the variety of ethical issues and questions that arise. Near term concerns – like whether and how many people will lose their jobs or whether your self-driving car should run over someone else to protect you – seem unanswerable, and 100-year visions are in the realm of science fiction. Still the AI industry must make ethical decisions and try to guide reasonable regulations and ethics standards in the present. This article provides a good summary of those efforts and also links to an initiative to revisit ethical and industry issues every 5 year for the next 100 years.
