Cartivator is a start-up group of about 30 engineers that hopes their flying car will be able to light up the Olympic flame for the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games. The group expects to conduct the first manned-flight by the end of 2018. Their flying car under the current expected design will be the world’s smallest electric vehicle to be used in small urban areas and will be available for sale to the public by 2025. Along with Toyota, Uber Technologies is planning to deploy by 2020 its flying taxi service in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas and Dubai. Airbus Group s developing its flying car under its division called Urban Air Mobility. Can governments and the public catch up? How do you regulate flying cars? Whatever the hurdles, technology is driving the (flying) bus.
