CRISPR-Cas9 is  a method for genetic engineering that has reduced costs by 99%, and the time it takes to modify genes from years to only weeks. The ethical issues of using CRISPR on humans’ genes have been a concern, but now a group in China has announced that on October 28, 2017, they modified a living human’s genes for the first time anywhere using the method. Now CRISPR is coming to the U.S. The U.S. trial will primarily focus on verifying that CRISPR is safe for use on people, specifically on participating patients from California and Texas.
