A research team from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), has developed the first-of-its-kind biomarker test to help detect autoimmune-induced neuropsychiatric disorders.  Determining whether conditions such as obsessive compulsive disorders, tics, mood disorders and behaviors associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may be due to an autoimmune dysfunction, rather than a primary psychiatric illness, is important to clinicians, since the treatment differs for each.
