Giving computers better vision.

In AI-Artificial Intelligence, Brain Technology by Brainy Days Ahead

Facebook just made a computer vision algorithm available to researchers and the public. The algorithm, to be used just for research for the time being, can help computers separate a cat from its background and also identify various other objects in a picture. Advances in computer vision thus far used large simulated neural networks trained to categorize images using numerous examples. These “deep learning” systems recognize features, such as color and texture, but do not necessarily recognize the outline of an object. Facebook’s algorithm combines a series of neural networks to perform this sort of “image segmentation.”
