Pizza has a future in Ford Motor Company’s broad ambitions for its autonomous and electric vehicles in the worldwide delivery market. It is currently teaming with Domino’s Pizza in Michigan to test consumers’ reactions when their pies are delivered by self-driving Ford vehicles. Their broader goal is to move both people and goods. The company expects to launch a self-driving shuttle for commercial ride-sharing fleets in 2021. In the Michigan project, Ford will deploy Ford Fusion Hybrids equipped with self-driving technology, but initially they will be piloted by human drivers. Instead of door-to-door delivery, the vehicle will stop outside the customer’s house. That last 50 feet from the curb to the door remains a challenge reserved to the future.
