Researchers at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invent thinner, softer electrodes–soft enough to insert into the brain. They channel a flow of water through a soft nanotube to make it stiffer and use it to insert electrodes that record brain activity in mice without causing any damage. The nanotubes should enable researchers to study brain activity over much longer periods.
