In addition to a condition described as “ringing in the ears,” tinnitus is also associated with ear injury, age-related hearing loss, and neurological disorders emanating from traumatic brain injury. Researchers at Wayne State University have developed a robust behavioral tool utilizing tinnitus testing in animals to  increase understanding of the underlying mechanisms of tinnitus and allow rapid testing of pharmaceutical drugs or medical devices treating tinnitus.
